Weed killer for driveways and patios: which one to buy
A path and drive weedkiller is two chemicals in one bottle. Glyphosate kills what is growing, and a residual stays behind to stop the next lot germinating. The residual half is what you are paying extra for, and it is the half nobody explains: what it does in a paving joint, how long it genuinely lasts, what it costs per square metre, and the surface it is not actually approved for. The short version
The residual in a UK path and drive weedkiller is almost always diflufenican, and it works: it bleaches seedlings as they germinate, for roughly three months, which is the one thing glyphosate cannot do. But no amateur product containing it is approved for a hard surface. Its label rules out concrete, tarmac and paved areas, it caps you at one treatment a year, and it wants six months before you plant anything in treated ground against a day for plain glyphosate. So on gravel over soil, buy the residual while it is still on sale. On solid block paving, concrete or tarmac, buy a glyphosate concentrate: it is the chemistry your surface is actually named on, and it works out at around 1.6p a square metre against 26p for any ready-mixed bottle.
What is actually in a path and drive bottle
Five chemistries are sold for a drive or a patio in the UK and only one of them leaves anything behind. Turn the bottle over, because the active ingredient decides this and the word on the front does not.

Concentrations are the manufacturers' own label figures. The strength question sitting underneath all of them, what grams per litre actually mean and how a label rate scales to a tank, is worked through on the glyphosate concentrate strengths and mixing rates resource.
What a residual actually does in a paving joint
Every buying guide I read while writing this concluded that what a driveway needs is a systemic weedkiller that gets down to the roots. That is the right answer to the wrong question, and it is why people keep asking why the weeds are back by August.
A paving joint is not a plant problem. It is a seedbed. Grit, dust and windblown soil settle into the gap the jointing sand has washed out of, and seed lands on it all season. Killing today's dandelion perfectly, root and all, changes nothing about the seed that blows in next week and germinates in the same few millimetres of muck. That is the actual mechanism behind weeds coming back on a drive you have already sprayed.
A residual is the only chemistry that addresses it. Diflufenican, the residual in every UK path and drive product I could find, does not work through a living leaf the way glyphosate does. It inhibits an enzyme called phytoene desaturase, which the plant needs in order to make carotenoids, and carotenoids are what stop the light falling on a leaf from destroying its own chlorophyll. Block that and a seedling germinating through a treated layer comes up bleached white and dies before it establishes. Herbicide classification puts it in HRAC group 12, still widely labelled F1, and its database entry describes it in six words: selective contact and residual action, bleaching.
So the two halves of a path and drive bottle do genuinely different jobs on genuinely different plants. The glyphosate deals with what is standing today. The diflufenican deals with what has not germinated yet. If you take nothing else from this page, understand that the second one is what you are buying, because the first is available on its own for a fraction of the price.
How long the residual really lasts
The pack says it prevents new weeds for up to three months by creating an invisible barrier. I went looking for whether that number is real or marketing, and it is real. Diflufenican's typical measured half-life in soil is 92 days, and about 114 days in field conditions, so three months is roughly where the amount left in the surface layer stops being enough to kill a germinating seed. Credit where it is due: that is a claim you can trace.
It also explains every replanting interval printed on every one of these labels, once you line the actives up by how long each lasts in soil:
- Diflufenican: 92 days. Hence six months before replanting.
- Glyphosate: 17 days. Hence replanting the next day to a week.
- Pelargonic acid and the other fatty acids: 3 days. Hence replanting in three.
- Maleic hydrazide, the "long lasting" ingredient in the glyphosate-free bottles: 0.8 days. Which is why none of them claims a duration in months.
Two things gut the three-month figure in practice. The first is a condition printed on the same label as the claim: to get that persistence, do not disturb the treated area. A driveway is the most disturbed surface you own. Tyres turn on it, feet cross it, people brush it, and every heavy shower washes fresh untreated grit and fresh seed into the joints. The barrier is a few millimetres deep in material that will not stay put.
The second is the treatment cap. Weedol Pathclear allows a maximum of one treatment per year, March to September. So the honest framing is not three months of protection. It is one treated window a year out of a seven-month growing season, after which you are not permitted to go again until next spring. Rain within six hours may spoil it, and you should not expect to see much for a fortnight: visible results in 14 days, weed death up to 28. That is the same slow curve as any systemic weedkiller, and it is a feature rather than a fault.
Where a residual is, and is not, allowed to go
Start with the thing that reframes the whole category, and it comes off the regulator's own register rather than anybody's opinion.
HSE keeps a public register of every pesticide authorised for amateur use in Great Britain. There are about 331 herbicides on it. The number containing diflufenican is four, all of them Pathclear, all of them Evergreen Garden Care, and every one is approved for the area "areas not intended to bear vegetation, unwanted vegetation". None is approved for hard surfaces, which HSE defines separately as any man-made impermeable surface such as concrete or asphalt that is not intended to bear vegetation. That is the gap: bare ground, gravel and permeable surfaces sitting on soil are one regulatory category, and your block-paved drive is another. The labels then say it outright, ruling out concrete, tarmac, decking and paved areas because the solution might run off onto adjacent land or into drains and gutters. That is the whole of the answer to whether path and drive weedkiller works on block paving, and I am not going to repeat it here.
This is not a quirk of the shelf product either. BASF's Pistol is the industrial version of the same combination, 250 g/L glyphosate with 40 g/L diflufenican under MAPP 18854, and its label is blunter than any amateur one. Pistol must not be used on non-porous man-made surfaces, and it gives paved areas, concrete and tarmac car parks and footpaths as its own examples. It may be used on porous surfaces such as gravel only where the underlying surface is soil, and not if an impermeable membrane lies between the gravel and the soil. And, in capitals, it must not be applied over drains or in drainage channels, gullies or similar structures for moving water.
Read the middle one twice, because it is the trap nobody flags. A gravel drive laid properly, over a woven membrane, is out of scope even for the professional product. The membrane is doing exactly what the restriction describes, sitting between the porous surface and the soil, so the residual has nowhere to bind and nowhere to go but sideways. Worth knowing, given that laying a membrane under gravel is the standard advice, mine included, in the honest breakdown of what a membrane does and does not stop.
Then the planting restriction, which is the biggest practical difference between the two product types. Glyphosate is inactivated the moment it touches soil, so Roundup Ultra's own page says you can replant the following day and the Optima+ concentrate says seven. The Pathclear label says allow at least six months, and dig the soil well first. Then it admits something manufacturers rarely put in writing: where this or other diflufenican products are applied in successive years, diflufenican will build up in the soil, and there is a risk of damage to subsequent plantings even if the soil is well dug. The professional label carries the same six-month interval and the same warning.
So the list is short. Never where the fall of the drive runs towards a border, a gully or a pond. Never over the root run of a tree, shrub or hedge you want to keep. Never on ground you might want to plant within the year, and think hard before a second successive year anywhere. Never on a day rain is forecast. And empty your washings well away from a drain, on ground you are not going to grow anything in.
Both labels, amateur and industrial, carry the same line at the bottom: very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects. That is not decoration. Diflufenican's toxicity to algae and to rooted aquatic plants is rated high, its chronic toxicity to fish is rated high, and in a water and sediment system its half-life in the sediment is around 373 days. Once it reaches water it stays there the better part of a year. For scale, the legal limit for an individual pesticide in UK drinking water is 0.1 micrograms per litre, and the Drinking Water Inspectorate names non-agricultural weed control alongside farming as a reason traces turn up in rivers and groundwater at all.
None of that framing is mine. Defra's own code of practice says it in a sentence: applying pesticides on hard surfaces may lead to run-off, take extra care that they do not enter drains or watercourses, and run-off can also pollute groundwater. And before a hard-surface weedkiller can be approved in Great Britain at all, amateur products included, the applicant must submit an assessment using HSE's HardSPEC model, which exists specifically to predict surface water, sediment and groundwater exposure from herbicide applied to hard surfaces. The run-off line on your bottle is there because a regulator modelled the run-off.
Your drive is not the ground the residual was assessed on
Here is the reason behind all of that, and the part no retailer will ever tell you because it undercuts the category on the one surface people most want it for.
Diflufenican works by staying put. Its soil adsorption coefficient is 5,504, which in plain terms means it binds hard to the organic carbon in soil, and that binding is what holds it in a thin surface layer long enough to catch germinating seed. It barely dissolves in water at all, 0.05 milligrams per litre, and its leaching index is rated low. In farm soil, it stays where you put it.
A driveway is not farm soil. Clean gravel and swept kiln-dried jointing sand hold almost no organic carbon, and there is a study that measured exactly what that does. Svendsen and colleagues, publishing in Science of the Total Environment in 2020, put diflufenican side by side into an agricultural sandy soil and into gravel of the type used on driveways and outdoor tiled areas. Four findings, all pointing the same way:
- It sorbed much more strongly to the soil than to the gravel. The property that makes it work is the property the gravel does not provide.
- It degraded more slowly in gravel than in soil, and so did its breakdown products.
- After 150 days, around 10 per cent of the applied diflufenican had been mineralised in the soil. In the gravel, none of it had.
- Its metabolite AE-B accumulated in the gravel across the whole 150 days, where in soil it did not accumulate at all.
Their conclusion is that applying diflufenican to gravel carries an increased risk of it and its metabolite leaching to groundwater, compared with applying it to agricultural soil. And the reason they did the work at all is the line that should stop any UK homeowner: in Europe, pesticides are regulated using agricultural soil data only.
One earlier study put both actives on real hard surfaces, and it is worth reporting honestly rather than selectively, because it does not simply say glyphosate is the clean option. Spanoghe and colleagues, in Pest Management Science in 2005, tested glyphosate, diuron and diflufenican on hard surfaces and concluded that losses from hard surfaces are much higher than for the same herbicides used in arable fields. Within that, the two apolar residuals adsorbed strongly to asphalt, and it was the glyphosate that lost 75 per cent of what was applied in run-off from asphalt, while binding strongly to concrete pavement and to soil. So neither chemistry is innocent on a solid surface, the behaviour changes with the surface, and the practical rule is the same for both: nothing goes on a drive that falls towards a gully, and nothing goes on before rain.
Half of this aisle is on a withdrawal timetable
Once you know that, the history of this product category stops looking like a series of unrelated events, and the present starts looking like the same story still running.
The residual in a path weedkiller used to be simazine, atrazine or diuron. The European Commission refused to include simazine and atrazine in March 2004, withdrawing authorisations that September with a grace period to September 2005. Diuron followed in June 2007, withdrawn that December, and the Commission gave its reason plainly: it was not possible to reach a conclusion on the possible risk of groundwater contamination.
Diflufenican is what replaced them, and it is now going the same way commercially. Its EU approval expired in January 2026 and its Great Britain approval currently runs to the end of 2027. More to the point for a buyer, its only UK amateur brand owner has already moved on: the Weedol range page now lists Path & Gravel Control, a lawn product and a tough weed product, and every Pathclear product page on the manufacturer's own website returns a 404. It is not banned. The company that makes it has simply replaced the line with pelargonic acid, which is gone from soil in three days.
And the acid bottles are not a safe harbour either. In April 2025 HSE issued an amendment notice covering around thirty amateur acetic acid weedkillers, Resolva Path & Drive and Verve Rapid Action among them, as a result of a European implementing regulation. Those authorisations end on 30 November 2027, existing stocks may be sold until 31 May 2028, and the last date for using or disposing of them is 31 May 2029.
So the practical read on this aisle, today: glyphosate and pelargonic acid are what will still be there in five years. The residual is clearance stock and the acid is on a countdown. If you have gravel over soil and you want the germination barrier, it is still on sale and it still works. If you were planning to build a yearly routine around it, do not, because the chemistry that makes "kills and prevents for three months" possible has been leaving the amateur market for twenty years, one active at a time, always for the same reason.
Trade strength versus the shop bottle: the same dose either way
People ask constantly whether the stuff contractors use is stronger than the stuff in the garden centre. For this category I can answer with arithmetic off two approved labels rather than an opinion, and the answer surprised me.
Weedol Pathclear's maximum individual dose is 18ml of product per 20 square metres. Scale that to a hectare and it is 9 litres of product. At 20 g/L diflufenican and 125 g/L glyphosate, that puts 180 grams of diflufenican and 1,125 grams of glyphosate on the hectare.
Pistol, the industrial product, has a maximum individual dose of 4.5 litres per hectare. At 40 g/L diflufenican and 250 g/L glyphosate, that puts 180 grams of diflufenican and 1,125 grams of glyphosate on the hectare.
The same two numbers. Not close, identical. The trade pack is the shelf pack at exactly double the concentration applied at exactly half the volume, both cap you at one treatment a year, and both carry the same surface prohibition. Per square metre it comes out at 18 milligrams of diflufenican and 112 milligrams of glyphosate either way. So the difference is packaging, dilution and who is legally allowed to hold the lance, not potency. Professional describes the certificate the operator holds, not a stronger dose landing on the ground.
What it actually costs per square metre
Nobody publishes this, including the guides that print both the coverage and the price. Every coverage figure below is the manufacturer's own; the prices are the Amazon listings in August 2026, and prices move, so read the pennies as a ratio rather than a quote.

Two things fall out of that table, and the second one genuinely surprised me.
The first is that the residual is not what costs you money. Compare like with like: Roundup Path ready to use is plain glyphosate at about 26p a square metre, and Weedol Pathclear ready to use, which adds the residual, is about 27p. Same format, same shelf, a penny between them. The three-month barrier is effectively free. So where your surface is one the residual label permits, there is no price argument against taking it, and the reason to say no is the label rather than the money.
The second is where the money really goes, and it has nothing to do with which chemistry you pick. Roundup Ultra is 360 g/L glyphosate in a bottle you dilute, and it works out at about 1.6p a square metre. Roundup Path is 7.2 g/L glyphosate in a trigger bottle, and it works out at about 26p. Same manufacturer, same active ingredient, roughly sixteen times the price per square metre for the water already being in it. On a 40 square metre drive that is about 64p against about £10.40.
A trigger bottle is the right buy for a path and a handful of weeds, where mixing something up is more faff than the job is worth. On a whole drive it is the most expensive item in the trolley, and nobody says so, because the guides that publish the coverage do not publish the price and the ones that publish the price never divide.
The shelf trap: one name, two chemistries
If you take one practical warning from this page, take this one, because it is the easiest mistake to make and it is about to get easier.
Weedol Pathclear is the residual: 125 g/L glyphosate plus 20 g/L diflufenican in the tubes, systemic and residual, one treatment a year, six months before replanting. Weedol Path & Gravel Control is 43.1 g/L pelargonic acid. No glyphosate, no diflufenican, no root kill, no barrier. Its own label states it will not provide long term control of perennial weeds, it allows up to four applications a year, and you can replant after three days. Two products, near-identical branding, opposite jobs, and the second is actively replacing the first on the shelf.
Resolva Path & Drive is worse, because it is not one product at all. There are three registrations under that name across two completely different actives: the original at 60 g/L acetic acid, a ready-to-use at 31.02 g/L pelargonic acid, and a concentrate at 186.7 g/L pelargonic acid. Same name on the front, and the only way to tell which one is in your hand is the MAPP number on the back.
The collisions keep going. Roundup Weedkiller Path Optima is the same pelargonic acid at the same 43.1 g/L as the Weedol product, because Evergreen Garden Care owns both brands. Neudorff WeedFree Plus and Vitax Ultima are the same formulation under two names, both authorised to Neudorff. So the fix is the one I give for every product question on this site: ignore the front of the pack, look for the active ingredient, and treat the MAPP number as the only thing that actually identifies what you are buying.
One more warning aimed squarely at buying any of this online. The retailer spec boxes for this category are not reliable and I would not decide anything from them. Checking current listings against the manufacturers' own labels, one Pathclear bottle is listed as covering approximately 50 square metres where its own label's maximum dose of 30ml per square metre puts a litre at 33. One Roundup listing gives its active ingredient as "green". A Pathclear listing gives its active ingredient as ferrous sulphate, which is not in it. The label on the bottle is the only document that has to be true.
So which one do I buy
- Solid block paving, concrete or tarmac. A glyphosate concentrate mixed to its own label rate. This is not a preference, it is the only one of the two chemistries labelled for the surface. Roundup Ultra's own page names gravel, paths, drives, patios, tarmac and hard surfaces; the residual labels name those same surfaces to tell you not to.
- Gravel drive or path, straight onto soil. The residual, while you can still get it, because this is the ground it was actually approved for and the barrier costs about a penny a square metre more than plain glyphosate. Treat in spring while the weeds are small, once, and that is your go for the year.
- Gravel over a membrane. Not the residual. Treat it as a hard surface and use a glyphosate concentrate, and let the membrane keep doing the job the residual is not permitted to do there.
- A patio you sit on, with pots and borders round it. Glyphosate concentrate, spot-applied on a still day, and you can replant within days. A residual near planted ground is a slow mistake you will not see for a season and may still be dealing with the season after.
- You will not use glyphosate. Pelargonic acid, not acetic acid, because the acid products are on a withdrawal timetable. Go in with your eyes open: it burns the top off, it does not touch the root, the label permits four passes a year and you will use them. The honest version of glyphosate-free is more frequent work, not a different result.
- A handful of weeds in a path. Any ready-to-use bottle you like. Cost per square metre stops mattering when the area is a doormat's worth, and not having to mix anything is worth the premium.
Whichever you buy, the chemistry is only half the job on a hard surface. What actually stops a joint refilling is closing it, which is a different afternoon's work entirely: clearing the dead growth, re-sanding and sealing. The plain systemic route
A residual holds a surface for a season and a glyphosate-free bottle burns the top off. If what you want is the thing that kills the root at full amateur strength, it is one bottle, and this is it.

Gallup Home & Garden Glyphosate Weedkiller (1 litre)
The one Gallup a homeowner can legally buy and use: a 1 litre glyphosate concentrate at 360 g/L, approved for home and garden use under MAPP 17672.
It is the same active, the same 360 g/L loading and the same isopropylamine salt as the professional Gallup XL, and its single label rate of 24 ml per litre of water is exactly the rate the professional labels reserve for perennial broad-leaved weeds. The difference between the two bottles is the authorisation printed on them, not the chemistry inside, and this is the side of that line you are allowed to stand on.

- "Super strength" is keyword stacking. It is 360 g/L, same as professional Gallup XL.

What is a residual weed killer?
A residual weed killer is one that stays active in the surface layer after spraying and kills weed seedlings as they germinate, rather than only killing the plants standing on the day you sprayed. On UK path and drive products the residual is almost always diflufenican, which inhibits phytoene desaturase and so blocks the plant from making carotenoids, the pigments that protect its chlorophyll from light. A seedling germinating through a treated layer comes up bleached and dies before it establishes. That is a completely different job from glyphosate, which has to be taken in through a living leaf and carried to the root. A path and drive bottle usually contains both, and the residual is the half you are paying the premium for.
How long does driveway weed killer really keep weeds away?
The pack claim of up to three months is traceable rather than invented. Diflufenican's typical measured half-life in soil is 92 days, with about 114 days in the field, so three months is roughly where the amount left stops being enough to kill a germinating seed. For comparison, glyphosate is 17 days and the growth regulator in the glyphosate-free bottles is under one. What the claim leaves out is the condition printed on the same label: to get that persistence you must not disturb the treated area. A driveway is the most disturbed surface you own, and every heavy shower washes fresh untreated grit and fresh seed into the joints. Treat three months as the ceiling, not the expectation.
Is "path and drive" weedkiller actually approved for a drive?
For gravel and permeable ground lying over soil, yes. For a hard surface, no. HSE defines a hard surface as any man-made impermeable surface such as concrete or asphalt that is not intended to bear vegetation, and there are only four amateur diflufenican products registered in Great Britain, all of them Pathclear, all of them approved for "areas not intended to bear vegetation" instead. Their labels then rule out concrete, tarmac, decking and paved areas outright, because of run-off into drains and gutters. So the residual half of the category is named after a surface it is not approved for.
Is Weedol Pathclear the same as Weedol Path & Gravel Control?
No, and they do opposite jobs under near-identical branding. Pathclear is 125 g/L glyphosate plus 20 g/L diflufenican in the concentrate tubes, so it is systemic and residual, with one treatment allowed per year. Path & Gravel Control is 43.1 g/L pelargonic acid, which is a contact herbicide with no residual and no root kill, and its own label states it will not provide long term control of perennial weeds, with up to four applications a year. Path & Gravel Control is the one currently on the shelves, because the manufacturer has delisted the Pathclear range. If you want the barrier, the word on the pack is diflufenican, not the brand.
Is the professional version stronger than the one in the shop?
Per litre of product, yes. Per square metre of driveway, no, and the arithmetic is exact. BASF's industrial Pistol is 250 g/L glyphosate and 40 g/L diflufenican at a maximum of 4.5 litres per hectare, which works out at 180 grams of diflufenican and 1,125 grams of glyphosate per hectare. Weedol Pathclear is 125 g/L and 20 g/L at a maximum of 18ml per 20 square metres, which is 9 litres per hectare, which works out at 180 grams and 1,125 grams per hectare. The same numbers. The trade pack is the shelf pack at double the concentration applied at half the volume, and the professional label carries the same one-treatment-a-year cap and the same surface prohibition.
How long after using a path and drive weed killer can I plant something?
That is the biggest practical difference between the two types and almost nobody flags it. Glyphosate is inactivated the moment it touches soil, so Roundup Ultra's own page says you can replant the following day and the Optima+ concentrate says seven days. The pelargonic acid products say three days. A diflufenican product is a different world: the Pathclear label says allow at least six months between treatment and replanting and dig the soil well first, and then admits that where diflufenican products are applied in successive years it builds up in the soil, with a risk of damage to later plantings even after digging. A day against six months, from two bottles on the same shelf.
Can I use a residual weed killer on gravel laid over a weed membrane?
No, and this is the restriction that catches most people out. BASF's Pistol label spells it out for the professional version: the product may be used on porous surfaces such as gravel only where the underlying surface is soil, and do not use it if an impermeable membrane lies between the gravel and the soil. A woven membrane under gravel is exactly that. The logic runs through every restriction on these labels, which is that a residual that cannot reach soil has nowhere to go but sideways, into the border or the gully. If your gravel sits on a membrane, treat it as a hard surface and use glyphosate.
Is the glyphosate-free option the safer one to handle?
Not by the classification on the bottle, which surprises most people. Compare the concentrates, which is where the real strength sits. The pelargonic acid concentrates, including Neudorff WeedFree Plus, Vitax Ultima and the Resolva Path & Drive concentrate, all carry a Warning signal word, the exclamation-mark pictogram, and "causes serious eye irritation". The glyphosate concentrates from Doff carry no pictogram, no signal word, and only an aquatic hazard statement. At ready-to-use strength almost everything in this category is unclassified whatever is in it. Glyphosate-free is a decision about what you want in your soil afterwards, not a decision about what is gentler in your hands.
How many times a year can I treat a driveway?
It depends entirely on which chemistry you bought, and this is a legal condition of the approval rather than a suggestion. Weedol Pathclear allows a maximum of one treatment per year, and only between March and September. So does the industrial Pistol, and so does the Roundup Optima+ concentrate. The pelargonic acid products allow up to four a year, because they are contact-only and you will need every one of them. That pair of numbers is the whole planning problem: one annual pass of something that lasts three months does not cover a March to September growing season, and four passes of something that lasts three days is a subscription.
Will it wash into my borders or down the drain?
That is exactly what the labels are written to prevent, and there is a regulatory model behind it. Before any hard-surface weedkiller is approved in Great Britain, amateur products included, the applicant must submit an assessment using HSE's HardSPEC model, which predicts surface water, sediment and groundwater exposure from herbicide applied to hard surfaces. The Defra code of practice puts it plainly: applying pesticides on hard surfaces may lead to run-off, and run-off can also pollute groundwater. And the one published study that tested this on real hard surfaces found losses much higher than from farmland. In practice: never treat a drive that falls towards a gully, a border or a pond, and never on a day rain is coming.
Will driveway weed killer stain block paving?
A glyphosate or diflufenican product should not, because neither is a bleach, an acid or a salt. The real staining risk on a drive comes from the home remedies: bleach can mark block paving and stone permanently, salt leaves white efflorescence on the blocks, and strong acetic acid can etch and dull some stone. Treated weeds themselves brown and die back over two to four weeks, and that discolouration is the dead plant rather than the surface. The genuine caution with a proper weedkiller is drift and run-off onto plants and into drains.
Is a ready-to-use bottle worth it for a driveway?
For a stray weed in a path, yes. For a whole drive it is the most expensive way to buy the same chemistry there is, and the arithmetic is not close. Roundup Ultra is a 360 g/L glyphosate concentrate treating up to 1,500 square metres from a 500ml bottle, which works out at about 1.6p a square metre. Roundup Path is the same active pre-diluted to 7.2 g/L in a litre trigger bottle treating up to 30 square metres, which works out at about 26p. Same maker, same chemistry, roughly sixteen times the price for the water already being in it. On a 40 square metre drive that is about 64p against about ten pounds forty.
