Weed spraying · Hinckley

Weed spraying in Hinckley, from £15

Weeds coming up all over your drive, path or patio? I’m The Weed Guy. I spray hard surfaces across Hinckley and the rest of the borough, and I kill weeds properly, right through to the root, so they brown off and stay down instead of pushing back up a couple of weeks later. Send me a photo and your postcode and I’ll text you a fixed price within 24 hours.

Hinckley surfaces, and where weeds take hold

Hinckley is a real mix, and weeds find a way into all of it. The newer estates, Hollycroft Grange out at Hollycroft, the modern builds around Middlefield and Saxon Paddock, are laid in block paving, and seed drops straight into the sanded joints and roots down into the sub-base below. The older market-town streets in the middle of town, the Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian frontages around the Castle Street conservation area, tend to be tiled and flagged paths where weeds run along every edge and gap.

Even the town centre itself is largely block-paved now, since Castle Street and the Market Place were pedestrianised and resurfaced. Out towards the village side of the borough, past Burbage and Sharnford where most of the borough is rural, it’s more gravel and stone drives on the bigger plots, and gravel is where weeds spread quickest of all. Wherever it is, I spray the lot: hard surfaces only, the whole treated area rather than just the patches that show. No lawns, no beds, no gardening, nothing bolted on.

Why they don’t just grow back

Yanking weeds out, scraping the joints or blasting them with a pressure washer all do the same thing: they take off the green on top and leave the root sitting in the joint. Weeks later it’s back, and you’re doing the same job again. The weedkiller I use works the other way round. It’s professional-grade, I’m qualified to put it down, and the plant takes it in through the leaf and moves it down into the root, so the whole weed dies off rather than just the bit you can see.

You’ll see it start to turn within a fortnight and it takes about four weeks to finish the job, so leave it be and let it work. If you want the full story, here’s what actually kills weeds for good. And if rain’s forecast within a few hours of me treating, I’ll move the job rather than spray it and watch it wash off.

Keeping on top of it year to year

One spray clears everything that’s growing, but it can’t stop fresh seed drifting back in off the wind and the neighbours next season, because the weedkiller doesn’t linger in the ground. So if you’d rather just not think about it, I run an optional plan: I call back three times across the year, in spring, mid-summer and early autumn, and keep it knocked down. There’s no contract and no direct debit, you pay each visit as it comes and stop whenever you like. Once I’m maintaining a surface it’s a lighter job each time, so it usually sits in the cheapest band. The one-off spray is still the main thing I do; the plan is just there if you want it.

Questions I get from Hinckley

Do you cover the villages around Hinckley?

I do. Alongside Hinckley itself I get out to Burbage, Barwell, Earl Shilton, Sapcote, Stoke Golding, Higham on the Hill, Sharnford, Elmesthorpe and the rest of the borough. Pop your postcode in with the photo and I’ll let you know you’re covered when I send the price.

Can you do the block-paving joints on the newer estates?

Yes, and the sanded joints on the estates like Hollycroft Grange and Saxon Paddock are the classic spot for it, because seed drops straight into the sand and roots down into the sub-base. I run the treatment right along the joint lines rather than dabbing the odd tuft that shows, so the whole run of paving comes up clean.

Not dead in four weeks? I come back free

Give it a full four weeks to work through. If the weeds I treated still aren’t dying back by then, let me know and I’ll return and re-do that area for nothing. It’s a free re-spray of the ground I actually covered, not a refund, and it doesn’t stretch to brand-new weeds that have seeded somewhere I never sprayed. But on the ground I did treat, if it’s still standing, I sort it.
